Canadian Film Schools

Inspired by the success of Hollywood films, the film making rage and the millions earned from it, many film schools have sprung up in North America including Canada. Many Canadian film schools have come up to cater to the ever increasing number of students who are quite eager to make it big in film career.

Ontario Film Schools

Algonquin College imparts training through 2-year diploma programs for Broadcast Television, Interactive Multimedia Developer and an advanced 3 year diploma program. The 2 year program for Broadcast Television imparts formal training on television and television production, also covering the technical aspects in the daily operations. Students have to procure a minimum grade if they have to be promoted to the higher levels.

The IMD program concentrates on the development of hands-on experience, covered in courses like project management, digital imaging, authoring, animation and development. The Animation program covers both the traditional animation as well asthe digital advanced version. After successful completion of the first year program the students have the option to specialise in traditional or digital animation.

Brock University is the Canadian film school based in Ontario and offers a Film Studies Program which covers the various approaches to film making and gives an in-depth learning on the numerous aspects of film language. This program looks at films as an art and as a medium at the same time. Various courses in Film Studies are Popular Cinema, National Cinema, Critical Theory and Practice, Canadian Popular Culture, Canadian Cinema, Film Theory, Authorship in Cinema, Screen Education and Issues in Popular Culture. Basic film production courses are Video, Film History, Documentary films, Cultural History and Screened Women.

Film Schools in British Columbia

The Canadian Film School in North Vancouver - The Capilano College, offers several full time programs in professional film and development courses, apart from part-time courses in the evenings and weekends through its department of Continuing education. The programs covered under Full-Time Courses are Professional Film Studies Program and Acting for the Camera. This college also offers Entry Level Training Programs like Costuming for Film and Theater, Basic Make-up and Film Electrical Training Course.

Kelowna based Center for Arts and Technology is among the reputed Digital Arts Schools in Canada. This school offers customized programs for 3D Animation, Digital Filmmaking, Audio Engineering, Event & Talent Mangement, Interior Design, Graphics and Digital Media Design, 3D Game Animation, Network Security and many other related careers in information technology and the entertainment industry. These programs focus hands on experience to the students through project based work which covers the entire production process of films.
